As part of Yahoo! Maktoob’s commitment to working with local and regional partners to deliver relevant solutions to the region, the Yahoo! Safety Oasis (Y!SO ) program has been launched in collaboration with Media Plus, based in Jordan, and its sister company Sketch-In-Motion.

Featuring the characters Naya, Zain, Anbar and Hacker the Macker (Willy The Hacker), the Y!SO team worked with MediaPlus on this project which aims to engage families and educators to provide resources that educate, entertain and reward young children of ages between  6 and 12 regarding the incredible potential of online learning, as well as the importance of safely surfing the net.

This new campaign for enhanced digital literacy will stand out by linking back to tangible learning curricula while also rewarding users with a Safety Certificate upon completion of the program.

Yahoo! Maktoob chose to work with Media Plus due to its proven and award-winning experience in interactive design and production, aided by the Arabic content creation expertise of its sister company Skecth-In-Motion, who were the creative partners aiding in the development of this concept.

The resulting campaign has initially been announced in Kuwait and Jordan, and will ultimately include all consumer ages and demographics, by taking the idea to a regional and global level.

The importance of the Yahoo! Safety Oasis (Y!SO ) was illustrated by the results of a survey earlier this year, which found that 78% of parents said they are concerned about their children’s online safety. However, some 65% of people do not know or are not sure what a digital footprint is, and 31% do not feel they are in control of their online image. Despite this lack of knowledge, nearly 3 out of 4 parents want their child’s school to play an active role in teaching kids about online safety and citizenship.

Commenting on this collaboration, Zaiodun Karadsheh ……., said “We are proud to have been selected by Yahoo! Maktoob to help create, produce and launch this region-wide initiative that addresses the pressing need for education among the next generation of Arab Internet users. The story lines and characters were born in Arabia, and have been well received. We thank Yahoo!Maktoob for their commitment to Arabic content, and their belief in regional talents.”

Yahoo! Maktoob also collaborated with local organizations Wataniya Telecom (Kuwait) and Jordan Education Initiative (Jordan), to create an experience that is both far-reaching and locally relevant to consumers.

Yahoo! Safety Oasis (Y!SO) is now online at http://esfae.yahoo.com. Join the colorful cast of characters as they take you on a journey through Madinat Al Internet (Internet City).
